This is part 7 of 8 in the significant seven teaming questions. Previous parts can be found on my website (timshaw.co.za under Shaw to Shore articles).

What to absorb and what to reject – it takes focus to focus!

It takes synergy for focussed effort to compound. Compounding efforts produce tidal wave results.

Tidal waves are characteristic when the greatest number of complimentary phenomena align. Alignment applies equally to your team. There is a need for patience when applying the basics of team-work principles, especially those conforming with human nature. This will include extracting each members unique contribution which will not happen hap-hazzardly or through cajoling.

Do you have the self-restraint and ability to delay the gratification which flows from an approach grounded on a root philosophy? Everyone wants the fruit yet the harvest is seldom, if ever, in the same season as the planting.

Microwaving essential team qualities in order to fast forward results will do little to cement the synergised efforts of your team as compounding is built upon steadfast deposits of previous successes … over time.

It requires investment. Investments look for sustainable returns whereby the mind is set on fundamentals producing yields that are not only worthwhile but worthy. Everyone will get to know this … and they will feel it.

Learn to appreciate any tensions arising from team growth as they will take it to a place where the view is higher and the feelings are deeper, richer and fuller than from whence they came.

Ignore the golden rule of team ownership and accountability and face the consequences – unless you enjoy herding cats!
