I have been fortunate in that the reason for my work over the last two and a half decades, I have been getting to know people for themselves.
Although we have free-will and the freedom to choose, we are all born into relationships. For a better life we must learn to become skilful in crafting our way as our needs evolve.
Relationships are at the heart of everything we do. Every earthling is on board this ship seeking which deck to frequent or avoid frequenting, whether sailing in tranquil waters or in stormy seas.
Relationships are the essence of life and are fundamental to virtually everything we do, however obsession with breadth (shallowness) has diminished the depth of our interactions with each other. We get caught off-guard failing to grasp how our hustling and self-serving needs prevents us from seeing the forest for the trees.
Intentionality is a given for relationships which are paramount in one’s life, such as for those who are closest to you, because the purpose driving their need is extraordinary.
The question is – who am I ‘relation-shipping’ with? – How healthy are my relationships based on my needs? The majority of these would be those you have with:
God, yourself, your spouse/partner, your children, your relatives, friends, work colleagues, sport and community.
Our relationship potential hinges on the relationship we have with ourselves. I cannot imagine anyone who is not able to get along with themselves getting along well with others because we can only have relationships that equal our own ability.
When all is said and done, the quality of our lives will depend upon the quality or our relationships.
